Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are the most conservative esthetic restorations available in dentistry today. A thin layer of the front of the tooth is removed to allow a veneer of porcelain to be bonded to the tooth without making it any thicker. Similar, in a way, to a false fingernail, the veneer covers dark or yellow teeth, fills unsightly gaps, lengthens short or stubby teeth, straightens crooked teeth, and in general creates a more attractive smile. Unlike a false fingernail, veneers are more permanent. The veneers are attached to the teeth using the most advanced methods of bonding principles.
Bonding
The application of tooth colored filling material (composite) to the teeth has been a dental technique for many years. Recent advances have increased the strength, durability, and longevity of these restorations. Bonding material can be molded and shaped to achieve outstanding results including tooth lightening, closing spaces between teeth, making teeth appear straighter, and repairing chips and cracks. When polished it gives the appearance of natural tooth structure.
Smile Design
Smile Design is a conservative, non-aggressive way to rejuvenate your smile. Veneers work well for tooth reshaping and resizing. Veneers are an attractive way to rejuvenate your smile because they achieve a very natural look with a very conservative tooth preparation (shaping). Very little natural tooth structure is removed when veneers are bonded into place and the virgin strength of the tooth is recaptured as well. We have found that this is the treatment of choice for smile enhancement if more than whitening is needed.
Teeth Whitening
People with stained or discolored teeth may just need a whitening procedure in order to restore their smile. Teeth Whitening is a safe and effective way to brighten stained, discolored or dull teeth. Even a stubborn single tooth that is noticeably duller or less white than your other teeth can be individually brighten. Teeth bleaching products, which contain peroxides, actually change your natural tooth color anywhere from five to seven -- but even up to twelve -- shades brighter. You too can have the white smile you have always dreamed about!
Children's Dentistry
Dr Cave is dedicated to improving and maintaining the oral health of infants, children, and adolescents. You might have thought getting cavities was a fact of life, but thanks to fluoride, dental sealants, and better dental habits, 55 percent of school-age children now have no cavities. This advance in the dental health of children is an equal amount of marketing good dentistry to the public and the many successful scientific advances in dentistry.
The dramatic drop in cavities among children with regular dental care is due to regular visits to the dentist starting at an early age, professional teeth cleaning for children, proper tooth brushing habits, fluoride, and dental sealants.
The toothbrush that you decide to have your child use should be small enough to fit comfortably into your child's hand and mouth and it also should have soft bristles.
Dental sealants are a great way to protect your child's permanent teeth from cavities. The placement of dental sealants is painless and fast. Dental sealants are a clear and protective coating that is applied individually to the biting surfaces of the back teeth. The sealant protects the tooth from getting any cavities by filling in cracks and fissures, which shields the tooth against bacteria and plaque. Sealants are most commonly placed on children's permanent back teeth because they are more prone to cavities. Most insurance companies pay for sealants placed on children's posterior teeth.
Preventive dentistry is a remarkable success story in public health. Prevention has worked especially well in school-aged children where the average number of cavities in their permanent teeth has declined dramatically in the last three decades.
